…… Part of The Basics series. First published in January 2014 ……
You can’t change the world, or even a little bit of it, if you cannot change yourself. I’m starting 2014 with the decision to “work out loud” more often.
This means I’ll be posting thoughts, ideas, concerns on this blog more frequently. There will be fewer finished, crafted posts and more “work-in-progress”.
“Working out loud” milestones
Working out loud is not a new idea. Here are some key milestones:
- Narrate your work by Dave Winer, 2009,
- Managing the visibility of knowledge work by Jim McGee, 2010
- Observable work: the taming of the flow by Brian Tullis, 2010, who presented “In the flow: patterns of observable work” with Joe Crumpler at the Enterprise 2.0 Summit in the States in 2010.
- Bryce Williams actually coined the term “working out loud” (2010) and made sense of it by merging the notions of “narrating your work” and “observable work”.
- More has been written by Andrew McAfee, John Stepper and by Dennis Pearce.
Join me in making 2014 the year of “working out loud”
So, I’ll be following in the footsteps of those above who have been working out loud and we’ll see how it goes. At least as a solo entrepreneur I don’t have to worry about what my boss will say! Bryce Williams wrote a follow up post which I may also do 3 years from now!
In the meantime, I invite those of you who blog or share internally in your organization or externally on the web to join me and make 2014 the year of working out loud.
Any takers?
